Resembling an overly decorated cup cake at desi weddings is not everyone’s agenda in life. Some of us love the understated look of white chikankari ,and prefer sticking to a solid colored outfit instead of going all out as a gola ganda. Don’t get us wrong, we love the drama that comes with a Nomi Ansari creation (his collection at PLBW was SO GOOD), but there are days when Misha Lakhani is all you crave.
For days like those, we bring you 10 anti-OTT outfits fresh off the ramp outfits from Pakistan L’Oreal Bridal Week and Fashion Pakistan Week 2017. We aren’t going for the Plane Jane look, it is more like trying to achieve the classic Marilyn Monroe feel.
And that’s exactly how you’d feel in this gharara sari by Maheen Khan. We’ve been obsessing over it ever since it hit the ramp, and guess what?
Even Mahira Khan turned out to be a fan of the trend.
On a scale of one to ten, this outfit scores 10/10 on classiness and simplicity. Yes, we admit it has a fair bit of embroidery and cut work, but would you ever look at this outfit and think, “OMG! That’s so OTT”? Never!
Here’s another gem by HEM at FPW. The sheer A-line kameez and trouser (or is that shalwar) is equal parts risque and chic. Keep your look understated by pairing it with a statement teeka, nothing else.
Mahgul, who by the way made us gasp (with pleasure) multiple times during her show, had a good mix of OTT and anti-OTT ensembles. Above is one such example of a simplistic white dress with a statement dupatta!
If you don’t want to look OTT, then opting for an all-white outfit is the way to go, just like this Adnan Pardesi outfit from FPW.
See, didn’t we tell you, Mahgul was on fire at PLBW! Here is another one of her cool, clean looks. You can even do away with the jacket and let the choker speak!
Most of us don’t pay heed to afternoon shows at fashion weeks. Who wants to see young, up and coming designers? We do! This turquoise and mustard sharara by Fara and Fatima isn’t exactly understated, but with that raw silk collared choli you can hardly term it OTT.
Sanam Chaudhri was another one of our favourites from FPW Winter/Festive! This off-shoulder top pared with slim harem pants has the right amount of sass and bling. You can pair it with a choker and an arm full of gold bangles for a more wedding-y look.
Ah! Look at that shade of white, and the subtle layers at the bottom! We’d totally steal this look for the first wedding that comes our way this season.
The all-red look is back with a bang! Honestly, we were in dire need of this shade in our closet because lately, all people are obsessing over are pastels. This Misha Lakhani sharara is our favourite, but there are a lot of other reds to choose from.
THIS…this is the anti-OTT look we’ve been looking for all our dismal lives! The rich colour, the volume, and most importantly, this gorgeous dupatta by Zuria Dor is sending all sorts of take-me-home signals our way!And we end on a rather classic note. We’ve reached the conclusion that, no one does whites and traditional embroidery quite like Misha Lakhani. Her clothes have an old world charm and there’s nothing OTT about them!
