Halloween isn’t our holiday, we get it. But if it’s a chance to play dress up and channel our spirit animal, then we’re game. This annual celebration known for giving the world it’s most creative and elaborate costumes has gained popularity in Pakistan. So, in the spirit of celebrating things, we made a list of some of the coolest desi women we would like to dress as this Halloween.
What better stance to take this Halloween than that of an empowered woman. Bring out your white shalwar kameez, pair it with a delicate gold necklace and add an organza dupatta. For the final touches, paint your hair white and voila! you are a legend.
Brave, influential and mighty, PPP leader Benazir Bhutto was an inspiration to all. A white dupatta covering your head, with a classic 80s Shalwar Kameez and a pair of oversized glasses – you’re ready for world domination this Halloween.
Madam Noor Jehan
Do you identify as a creative, artistic soul? Madam Noor Jehan is your spirit animal. Some dramatic eye makeup, statement chokers and your mom’s vintage saari is the key to looking gloriously glamourous. Make sure to brush up on your vocals to really get in to the character and be unapologetically mesmerizing.
This one is for the fashion conscious feminist. 80’s style is still on trend, and we can swear that Disco Deewanay will never go out of style. To channel this silvery voiced vocalist, find a pair of geeky overalls and pair it with a full-sleeved shirt and put your hair in two braids. Grab a fake mic, or quickly create one by putting foil on top of a paintbrush.
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy
This fearless documentary producer has to be one of the coolest over achievers Pakistan has. So wear that embellished sherwani style coat you were saving for bridal season and bring along your own Oscar statue – using thick cardboard and lots of gold glitter.
