5 Pakistani Labels That Are Giving Paul Smith A Run For His Money

Every Pakistani man and woman with good taste owns a pair

By Mahvish Ahmed

The Pashtuns use it for daily wear but the love for this particular style of shoes is not limited to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from where they originate, as the name suggests. Men all over Pakistan wear Peshawari chappals for weddings, Eid and other festive events – and, paired with our national dress, they sure look sexy!

In 2014, Paul Smith, a well-known British shoe designer introduced the Peshawari chappal as part of his shoe collection and called it the Robert Sandal. Robert? Robert, who? Gul Baz Khan or Daulat Khan Sandals would probably have been more appropriate!

It is time to tell you, Mr. Smith, that we not only do our shoes better than you, we are doing a fantabulous job at making them for women too! Women all over the country are going gaga over this latest trend that allows them to embrace culture AND make their feet look pretty. There are all kinds of Peshawari chappals that seem to be a hot favourite in the Pakistani shoe scene right now – from hand-painted ones to those embellished with sequins and dabka; from plain suede ones to beautiful pieces adorned with ribbon-work roses. These chappals can be paired with desi clothes and can be made to work extremely well with a pair of jeans too!

Here are five Pakistani labels that are producing this age-old shoe design for the ladies and are, rightly so, still calling them the Peshawari chappal. Get ready to drool – and spend – girls!
