You know you are lucky if you love your job and actually look forward to the next working day. According to a report published in 2013 by Gallup, only 13% of workers feel engaged by their jobs, some 63%, are “not engaged,” – meaning they are unhappy but not drastically so – and 24% actively hate their jobs. So, we’re not surprised when some people suggest that they get nauseous while thinking about going to work, walking through the doors which lead to their desk, and spending the next eight hours there.
The problem with most people today is that, we have normalized the hatred towards our job. We have accepted it like a fact. We don’t realize that things are getting out of hand and unhealthy. It’s perhaps time to pause and reflect.
If you are familiar with any of the pointers listed below, then we are sorry to break it to you, that the real reason behind your unhappiness is your job and it’s time to reevaluate your decision.
You dread going to work
Your last thought before falling asleep is how will you face the burdens that come with a new day and your first thought right after waking up is how will you get through the day. Moreover, the stress doesn’t let you sleep and you wake up at least three times in the middle of the night (this is minus the washroom breaks).
Excess usage of smoke and caffeine
You catch yourself having tea or coffee at least thrice at work and you just need a reason for a smoke break. Every time a coworker gets up to smoke, you follow them.
The next time you stand up to join the smokers’ club, direct yourself to the HR manager and discuss your workplace woes instead.
You have given into strange habits
You are either biting your nails or spinning your chair a lot at work. These habits are enough to distract you from whatever you are working on at that moment.
You rant about it to all your friends
It is a chai date or a movie night with your friends and you hear yourself complaining. Pause a bit and listen to what you’re complaining about? Is it about your work, your boss, and your deadlines? Understand that you’re stressed when work talk sweeps into your social gatherings; it is the most alarming sign.
You see your boss in your dreams
Yikes! Dear overstressed souls, this is the last nail in the coffin. You know things have gone too far when your boss makes it to your dreams. It mean he/she is a part of your subconscious now and the only reason for that is either you’re in love with them or you hate them.
If you’re experiencing any of these things, you know it’s time to take control and take measures to lessen the stress. In order be less stressful at work, you can check out our story on how to have a stress free day at work.
