Farida Hasan’s Latest Cutwork Collection Is Goregeous

When technology meets great design aesthetic

By Mahvish Ahmed

With the name of their label almost synonymous with spring, the dynamic mother-daughter duo at Farida Hasan is best known for their ability to bring dreamy, ultra feminine collections to life year after year. The interplay of intricate floral embroideries, powdery pastel hues, aesthetically placed laces, ruffles and pearls makes the brand’s signature style stand out every time, however what caught our eye this instance is their innovative use of delicate laser cutwork.

The team came up with this fun and wearable cutwork collection by using laser and design consultancy provided by “Kavalier laser cut innovations” and fusing it with the signature Farida Hasan aesthetic.  “We have made cutwork pretty fashionable, haven’t we?” laughs Khuban Omar, the Managing Director at Farida Hasan. “I am glad we’re using technology to create such fun ready-to-wear outfits. The observant eye will notice that even the cutwork motifs clearly represent what our brand is all about. We have used floral patterns such as roses and chrysanthemums as well as birds which are typical of the spring season,” she explains.

Amidst the clutter of lawn prints swarming with digital roses, European architecture and overdone embroideries, these outfits are a much-needed break for the eyes. Plus, the pinks, blues, yellows and whites make the perfect colour palette for the approaching hot summer days.

The Farida Hasan exhibitions line-up is as follows: Friday, 17th March at Karachi Ensemble from 11am-9pm. Saturday, 18thMarch at the Lahore FH Studio, 148 A Abu Bakr Block New Garden Town, from 12-6pm and Monday, 20th March at Ensemble Islamabad, from 12-9pm.
