Everyone knows the choker is THE jewellery item of the moment. While we’re surprised that it took less than just three decades for this 90’s trend to resurface, we couldn’t be more excited. Chokers are dramatic, chic and versatile, and are now being made by a variety of local designers in some amazingly creative ways. Add some drama to any outfit with five of our favourite pieces now:
Zohra Rahman’s Snake Choker
This is not your average choker. For Rahman’s The Gold are Venomous collection, the designer weaved thousands of gold, copper, silver and enameled metal scales together to recreate the slithering body of a snake in metal. The scales shimmer as it sits on the neck, almost like a snake writhing under the sun
Zohra Rahman’s Wreath Choker
Another favourite by Rahman was made especially for HSY’s couture collection for Fashion Week 2015. The collection titled Ceres, named after the Roman goddess of fertility, consists of leafy earrings and tikkas made of gold and rhodium. The single choker in the collection caught our eye because of its regal and feminine feel, as well as its unique fusion of silver and gold.
Amber Sami’s Chaand Choker
This particular handcrafted kundan necklace is the perfect accessory for the summer wedding. Whether you pair it with a heavy outfit for extra oomph, or wear it to accentuate a simpler jora, it will instantly highlight your style with old-world charm. Take some cues from Mahira in Ho Mann Jahan, who rocked a similar version of this piece.
Amna Shariff’s Granulation Flower Choker
Amna Shariff’s black organza ribbon choker is a serious throwback to the 90s. Channel your inner Mia Wallace from pulp fiction, or Natalie Portman’s Mathilda from The Professionals, both of whom wore very similar pieces and nailed the trend perfectly! This star pendant is in pure sterling silver and the length is adjustable. It’s a perfect accompaniment to a regular jeans and t-shirt outfit.
Rema’s Bee Choker
This feminine, contemporary choker is from Rema’s latest collection, La Primavera, inspired by the Greek goddess of love and beauty. The piece is gold-plated with a bee made of Swarovski crystals resting on one side, and dropdown chains and a bird on the other. Pair this with a blazer and heels, and just watch those heads turn!
