Have you been trying (and mostly failing) to lose weight for longer than you can remember? Do you start diets, just to relapse? Perhaps you’ve joined a gym, starved yourself, and even jumped on the treadmill after reading our article on why running is the best workout for your body but aren’t quite seeing the results you were hoping for.

Detox water was all the rage not too long ago. Depending on what you put in it, (cucumber, lemon and mint is yummy), it works in different ways to rid your body of toxins that are clogging it up and making it difficult to burn your fat.

Downing a few glasses of these delicious drinks a day in turn helps you shed the pounds faster. When making detox water (the first two recipes) it’s worth noting that the various fruits are good for only up to eight hours. You can keep topping up the water and drinking it throughout the day, but after eight hours, toss out (or eat) the fruits.

Lemon Ginger Fat Burner

Here is a hot or cool beverage you can easily make at home! You must have heard that ginger is a powerful detox ingredient that helps to kick start your metabolism – adrak chai anyone?

Sipping this (or any other) ginger infused beverage will have your metabolism on the rise throughout the day. This allows you to eat more regular meals while still flushing fat and burn extra calories as you workout! Sounds great, doesn’t it? Lemons are also a natural detoxifier and with their diuretic effect, your body will more easily be able to rid itself of unwanted toxins.

Here’s What You Need:

  • 1 tall glass water
  • Juice of half a juicy lemon
  • ½ inch piece of ginger

Add the lemon juice to your water and finely grate the ginger when you’re ready to prepare the drink. This detox water is best consumed first thing in the morning but can also be enjoyed throughout the day keeping cravings at bay! Enjoy hot, cold, or room temperature and add a dash of honey if you’d like some sweetness.

Minty Grapefruit Zing

Sip this delicious drink to help you beat the bloat, burn calories and get back into shape! Consuming two liters, (approximately six glasses), a day, for five days will really help kick start your metabolism. This detox water packs a punch with cucumbers which help your body rid itself of excess water, lemon to aid digestion, and grapefruit to melt away fat.

  • 2-3 mint leaves, washed thoroughly

Combine everything into a large pitcher or punch bowl and let it chill for an hour or two. Drink throughout the day for five days and see a noticeable difference in your metabolism!

Green Juice

It may not look very appetizing, but trust us when we say it’s good for you! Everyone knows how great celery is in salads, especially when you’re trying to consume minimal calories, right? This green juice makes use of just that to make a fibre-rich drink that is low in calories and will keep you feeling full.

Here’s What You Need:

  • 1 cup chopped celery stalks
  • 2/3 cup water

Blend together to make 1 ½ cups of celery juice. If it’s too thick, you can thin it out a little with water, but make sure you don’t strain it, as you want to consume all of the fibre! To change it up a little you can add a little carrot or beetroot for sweetness. If you like things with more mirch masala, add a pinch of laal mirch which aids in burning fat by speeding up the metabolism!

Apple Cider Vinegar

This all-round magic vinegar is great for a myriad of things, but today we focus on how it can help us lose the extra pounds! However, this is not a quick fix and you must consume the drink daily for three months before you start to see real progress. We suggest you make it a part of your daily routine.

What You Need:

  • 1 tall glass water (250ml)
  • 2 tsp apple juice (freshly squeezed at home)
  • 3 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp raw, unprocessed, honey

Make this one fresh twice a day by mixing all the ingredients together in a blender. Add more water if the taste is too strong for you. Drink first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, and at night before dinner. Since the acid content is high, it’s recommended that you use a straw when consuming it and brush your teeth after, or at the very least gargle so that your teeth are not damaged.

Hot Lemon Water

Drinking two glasses, or about half a litre of this water, before meals, could really aid your weight loss goals. Be sure to use the pulp of the lemon as it has an active ingredient, pectin, that supports weight loss.

Here’s What You Need:

  • Juice of 1 lemon, with pulp
  • 2 glasses, or half a litre, hot water

Combine in a teapot and sip over half an hour leading to meals. You’ll notice that you will be fuller once sitting at the table, and consume less food which, let’s face it, is also a plus!
