Lazy Girl’s Guide To Glowing Skin

When you want to look flawless with zero fuss

By Amna Nadeem

We flip through glossy pages of fashion magazines and decide that one day, we will look as flawless as the airbrushed models posing away in there. In the meantime, all we can do is slather on a lot of foundation and cheat our way to flawlessness. Absolutely wrong. In a bid to reach somewhere (read: fresh, glowing skin), you need to work towards it.

Here are some basic hacks to achieve the no-fuss-bare-face look which doesn’t remind onlookers of the Zombie apocalypse. And no, we’re not about to suggest you to drown yourself in turmeric!

Essential # 1: Cleansing Water

Use a cleansing water such as the Bioderma Makeup Removing Micellar Solution to remove any leftover traces of makeup, buildup or pollution, because all these can clog your pores and give you breakouts.

Before taking your pre-bed shower, dampen a cotton ball with the micellar water and wipe the dirt, grime and makeup off. Go ahead and repeat the process to prevent blackheads and clogged pores. You can even include a warm towel wrap between the two wiping sessions to open the pores for a more thorough cleansing. Don’t forget to close your pores with ice-cold rose water though.

Essential # 2: Water based Moisturizer

Try a water based moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. Yes, even if you have oily skin! That’s because UV rays and pollution can damage the skin’s moisture causing excessive oil production.

Dot our favourite, Philosophy Hope In a Jarmoisturizer on your face and massage it gently in circular motions across the cheeks, chin, and forehead. This cream is oil-free, non-comedogenic, and contains glycolic acid which is a gentle skin exfoliator.

Essential # 3: Broad Spectrum Sunscreen

One of the major reasons women avoid sunblock is because it feels like an extra layer under the makeup, gives a greasy finish, and is likely to break you out.

But these issues are addressable and skipping sunblock is not an option. Try our favorite – the Vanicream Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30. It might be an underrated product (god, even I didn’t know about it unless I started using it), but it is formulated for sensitive skin and blends in easily without giving you a streaky look.

Pro-tip: You can find it at a well-stocked pharmacy.

Essential # 4: Brightening Primer

Ladies, the effort to wear less makeup starts right here. Mix a few drops of the Pixi Brightening Primer with a tinted moisturizer to give your skin the luminous glow without looking like a ball of glitter.

It will help your base stay put all day long and prevent it from sliding off and looking patchy.

Pro-tip: Always apply primer after moisturizer and before BB Cream/foundation to lock makeup into place and avoid mid-day meltdowns.

Essential # 5: Lightweight Base

It would be wise to minimize the use of foundation in your life. They should only be used during night time, and that too for weddings or award ceremonies, because they are prone to cracking, streaking, AND melting away.

So, switch to something more lightweight and breathable like a BB or CC Cream.

We tried a bunch of BB creams to see which one stands best against the sun heat and The Maybelline Dream Pure BB was a clear winner. It is super lightweight with a sheer tint and dries down to a matte, powdery finish.

Pro-tip: If you’re looking for more coverage, then order the NYX Cosmetic BB Cream which covers stubborn blemishes without looking cakey.

Essential #5: Setting Powders, Blush & Mascara to Finish Off!

To finish off your barely there makeup, pat some translucent powder on your face, swipe a blush across the apples of your cheeks, and apply mascara.

Use the Essence powder or the Coty Airspun Translucent Powder. These two are finely milled, smooth and colorless. Pat the powder gently into the skin, with a soft powder puff to achieve a flawless finish, bt don’t go overboard because a little goes a long way.

If you think you look pale, sweep the L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Blush on the apples of your cheeks and top of your nose.

Finally, coat your lashes with Maybelline The Falsies Mascara (the curved brush avoids clumps) and breeze out the door in your statement sunnies!
