It was a fairly hot Wednesday afternoon when we entered Bamboo Union. It was buzzing with hungry, chatty customers arriving there for lunch. Young boys and girls were sipping on fresh mint margaritas with their meals during their office break while aunties flaunted their latest lawn suits and (presumably) exchanged gossip over the yummy Pan Asian cuisine. The appetizing lemongrass aroma started giving us hunger pangs despite our late breakfast.
Located on the hottest new food street in Lahore around the Mall 1 area, Bamboo Union opened its doors last summer. The eatery introduced Lahoris to authentic East Asian flavour. With its modern, minimalistic interior, the eatery has a special place in the hearts of Lahoris (and those who visit the town often).
We were there to try some of the latest additions to the menu – the Pad Ki Mao (spicy Thai beef noodles), Spicy Tempura Maki, Pad Kra Pao (spiced minced chicken with basil leaves), Lemon Chicken and Nasi Goreng (an Indonesian rice dish) and were blown away yet again. Each dish was bursting with flavor yet everything was light and easy on the stomach, just like authentic East Asian food should be (of course the cool Mint Margarita helps to wash everything down).
“I think one of the biggest reasons of our success can be attributed to the uniqueness of our menu. The encouraging response of the customers pushes us even more to bring something new for them every few months,” the owner of Bamboo Union Raza Ahmed explained to us.
After tasting their latest additions, it is safe to say that we are head over heels in love with their oriental flavours. And every time we are in town, a meal or two here is a must. Here’s a pictorial summary of what our lunch was like.
Warning: Don’t scroll down if your stomach is empty.
