Who doesn’t love London, especially when the Christmas Lights are up and the winter chill is in the air? But, for us desis, winter is not just about sitting under fairy lights and sipping hot chocolate, it calls for donning the glitziest joras from our wardrobe and the heaviest jhumkas! It isn’t as easy as it sounds. “What will I wear tonight?” The question haunts us every single day of the wedding season.
In a bid to help us out, 26 designers from Pakistan headed to London to show us what they’ve got. Drawing a crowd of over 3,500 guests, suffice to say the show was a raging success!
Here is a glimpse of what we loved.
The one that stood out
They don’t call her Pakistan’s Coco Chanel for no reason. It comes as no surprise that Maheen Khan’s funky take on the traditional sari was our favourite! The colours are subtle and SO wearable while the fun silhouette is something which will force that snooty aunty to ask you: Beta, who are you wearing?
The one with a modern twist
This chic ensemble by Fahad Hussayan is bold yet delicate; the embellishment gives it a feminine vibe.
The traditional red
Haris Shakeel’s traditional red outfit isn’t your run-of-the-mill red jora, thanks to the edgy neckline. We are going gaga over the plunging sweetheart neckline that leaves your highlighter-laden shoulders bare.
The pretty one
Delicate net, baby pink color, subtle metallic hues, and floral motifs – Can you get more girly than that? We think Sonia Mahajan has the right mix which comes together with the still trending tulip shalwar.
The formal black
If you know how to tie it, you really can’t go wrong with a sari. The sexy sheer fabric, sparkly silver accents and sensual tassles really do it for us in this gorgeous number by Insam.
The colourful one
Few designers can bring such an array of colours together without looking tacky and we think Zunuj has got the balance just right!
