For the past few fashion seasons, metallics seem to have taken a backseat to more norm-core trends like athleisure, oversized and a whole lot of 90s. But this week we saw a slight shift in the climate as some of the most major names from Paris Fashion Week introduced more unabashed and almost 80s glamour to the runways.
Anthony Vaccarello’s 2nd collection for Saint Laurent set tongues wagging with its standout boots and bedazzled statement dresses, blazers and pants. Add to this Isabel Marant, the Queen of luxe bohemian style, who brought together feminine ruffles with an ultra glamorous metallic fabric, the most searched piece on Instagram from her collection. More niche brands like Thierry Mugler and Zimmerman followed suit giving us a variety of silhouettes fashioned from in-your-face bold metallic fabrics.
Move over to our neck of the woods, where due to the significance of bridal fashion and ultra-heavy formals, metallics really never go out of style. This past wedding season in particular we saw the re-emergence of shimmering silver and gold tissue, organza and brocade.
We foresee our wardrobes becoming much brighter as this trend begins to translate off the runway and into real life. If a full on metallic look feels too overwhelming, start slow with a pair of shoes or a cross body bag.
