The story of Pakistani Female Fighter Hits Cinemas

Ek Thi Marium

If you missed Sarmad Sultan Khoosat’s inspiring television film Ek Thi Marium, head to the cinemas for it’s big screen release this weekend. The biopic stars Sanam Baloch as real life hero Marium Mukhtiar, who follows her dream to join the Pakistan Air Force. Mukhtiar was killed in the line of duty.

Hina Bayat and Behroze Sabzwari play protective parents who allow their daughter to join the armed forces. The opening lines of the film, “Larke larkiyo mei koi farq nahi hota…mujhe tu meri larkiya buhat pyari hein,” set the tenor for Marium’s journey from a young cadet to a top fighter pilot. The Manto director creates a story that is palpable and raw without being soppy.

We have been longing to see Sanam Baloch on screen since her heart-breaking performances in Dastaan and this film is the perfect role for an actress of her spark and callibre. Ek Thi Marium premiered on Urdu One this Defense Day, but can be seen in cinemas across the country.
