Her name is Samaya Kidwai and her designs will get you through 2017 quite fashionably. Kidwai’s clothing brand Expressions is not just a brand, it’s a legacy. Kidwai’s mother owned the first multi brand fashion house back in the 80’s and a few years back, Samaya Kidwai decided to bring Expressions – her mother’s brand – back to life! Rather she infused a new life, a youthful feel to the brand with new age design aesthetics like cold shoulders, striped tunics, and pastel cropped palazzos.
Expressions is understated fashion at its best. You won’t see Kidwai’s designs drowning under bows and ruffles (like so many other clothing brands out there), which is such a relief! We don’t like resembling a heavily decorated cupcake and neither should you.
And that’s why we find ourselves paying more and more attention to Samaya Kidwai’s clothes. Here are some of her pieces that will end up in our closets sooner than later.
This black cold shoulder top with embroidered denim flared pants is perfect for a day out, night out, or a cool committee party (not the one where everyone looks like clones in designer lawn). Apart from being a dressier version of jeans, this one can also be converted into two separate outfits!
Don’t we love making the most out of our clothes?
Either wear the black top with cropped plain denim culottes for a casual GT or shopping trip to the mall with friends, or pair the embroidered pants with a white cotton off-shoulder top with ruffled sleeves! You can even go for a striped cotton crop top – the options are endless, really. And what if you’re looking for a laid back comfy kurta? Expressions has a gazillion options, but our favourite is this striped tunic which can be paired with white denim, cigarette pants, culottes, or even shalwar!
Then there are days when the style diva inside you craves for a more dressier outfit. For days like those, opt for the short angarkha style kurta above and style it with an ethnic choker plus funky tan kolhapuris. This brand surely knows how to cater to various types of audiences.
Yellow is the color of the season! It instantly lifts up your mood (trust us guys, we’ve tried it on a Monday morning), and this lemon yellow kurta here will look equally good with your Afghan jhumkas and leather khussas or your Gucci mules and a tote!
A formal white dress is Pakistani equivalent of an LBD, so this self-print kurta with flared pants is a no-brainer. You must own and style is a gazillion ways!
Here are a few options: EIGHT FUN WAYS TO STYLE A WHITE KURTA
What’s more classic than a plain white dress? Stripes! So you can imagine what happens when you combine the two. Plain white meets horizontal red stripes and we think we know what we’re wearing to our next quarterly meeting!
You can add gold hoops to make it fun or stick to pearl studs, red lips, and nude peep toes for a no-nonsense look.
Here’s another striped wonder, with some floral detailing to add a bit of a drama.
If you don’t own a dress with multi-tiered ruffled sleeves, then are you even living really? It was the hottest trend earlier this year and now has become a wardrobe staple, just lke this millennial pink shade!
Expressions’ design team surely has their eyes on the hottest trends.
Another trend, which seems to be going nowhere, is the denim craze! From plain denim kurtas, culottes, to even gharara pants; we’ve seen it all. This design house, decides to give a formal makeover to the otherwise casual fabric with floral embroidery.
A lilac straight-cut kurta is another must-have in any busy-bees wardrobe. Why, you ask? Because it is SO easy to dress it up or down and it has a cooling effect in this mad, mad heat!
