They’re saying the film might get banned!
This is the second time this year that Mahira Khan’s film is facing a major blockade. Earlier this year, it was her Bollywood debut film, Raees, which never saw a release in Pakistan and now it is Verna. News is that Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Islamabad has reservations regarding Shoaib Mansoor’s upcoming film, Verna. What exactly are there reservations? Nobody knows. At least not officially. The only thing we do know, is that the “Islamabad board didn’t approve of the content”.
Was the social issue based film not entertaining enough for them?

JPNA : Great Movie, Objectifying Women,Cheap item songs. Pakistanis really need to watch this masterpiece.
Verna : What a boring movie, No item song, depicting rape and can initiate a dialogue. Haram. Lets Ban this movie. #Verna

The PR company of the film has confirmed that the full board will review the film today to reach their final decision. Meanwhile, film’s Lahore premiere, which was to be held tonight, has been cancelled because after CBFC’s reservations, the Sindh and Lahore censor boards have also withheld their censor certificates.
It is reported that even though the Sindh Censor Board had approved the film earlier, they did have a few reservations.
#Verna being banned will not just be an injustice to those involved with the film but to the Pakistani film industry as a whole. Audiences will consume diverse material from around the world so why stifle the creativity of your own filmmakers?

Later during the day, Journalist Hasan Zaidi, presented a few reasons why Verna is facing a potential ban.
Update: So apparently the censors in Islamabad had an issue with #Verna bec 1) they thought the topic (rape) was too ‘boldly addressed’ and 2) the rapist character is the PM’s (or potential PM’s) son.

However, the question of the hour is:
The moral Ruet e Hilal, rather Halal and Haram Committee is out. #verna ka chand nazar ayega ke nahin?
