Invest in basic pieces that can be paired with different items. These cropped black trousers from Mango can be the basis of a variety of outfits, both eastern and western.

Styling Tip: Wear your pants with a button down for a heading-to-a-meeting-look, or a tucked-in baggy top for a casual-day-at-office-look, or add a cape for days when you need some added motivation. Try to be creative and open your mind to pairing your cropped black culottes with an asymmetrical ruffled top or a multi-slit kurta.

There’s always a room for one more kurta in your closet. When shopping for the right work kurta, keep in mind that solids (like the one above from BTW Pakistan) and prints (shown below from Sapphire) will both work best when purchased in a fabric that doesn’t crease easily.

Styling Tip: Move on from the straight and simple silhouette to ruffles, cut out shoulders, and choker necklines. If you keep the prints away and stick with pastel shades, they’re totally acceptable at even the most conservative of workplaces. And just add a belt to give a new life to an old kurti.
