Let’s talk about exercise – something we all want to do, but most likely aren’t getting enough of. Why? Oh, there’s a long list. Whether you can’t find the time or don’t really enjoy it, all you really need is a little bit of motivation. Once you start running and giving your body a proper cardio workout, the high will leave you wanting more. The days that you don’t venture out for a run will be days you find yourself sluggish and maybe even a tad depressed.
So, get running, shall we?
First of all, why run?
One word… endocannabinoids! This is the feel-good hormone that leaves you feeling on top of the world. It also helps you get fit, strengthens your joints, prevents a host of coronary diseases, and keeps anxiety and depression at bay. Running is a full body workout and you can add dumbbells and arm-movements to take it up a notch if you find it lacking.
In order to get the benefit of running, you must run for at least 30 minutes a day, five times a week. Don’t forget to do some basic stretching exercises for 10 minutes before starting and then cool down for another 5-10 minutes after.

So if you’re tempted to incorporate this routine into your life, why not start today? Start by taking a walk at your local park, or on the treadmill if you’d prefer, and slowly increase your pace to a jog. The pros of being out in the park are seeing other people, being out in nature, and getting a bit of vitamin D. It has a positive impact on your mental health and pushes you to keep going.
If you live in Karachi, why not venture out to run on the beach? A good way to start is brisk walk, and then jog. When you’re tired, resume the brisk walk. The key is to not stop. Over time you’ll find the length of time you’re jogging increases and you’re covering the same distance over a shorter span of time.
Make sure you have a good running gear!
When it comes to shoes stores such as Nike, Adidas, Reebok and Puma will help you find the right one for you. While you’re there, pick out a couple of nice yoga pants, tights, or cut offs, a couple of sports bras, and a few running tees – whatever you’d be most comfortable in. The sporty fabrics that incorporate high-performance technology such as Dri-fit are the best because they don’t let the sweat get to you.
Make a playlist!
When you’re running, music can be a game changer. The right kind (for you) will egg you on and push you to your limits, helping you exert every last bit of energy and achieve your goals.
