It’s been a while since we’ve seen or heard from designer Yousuf Bashir Qureshi, but the good news is he’s been up to something really exciting. If you’ve style- spotted YBQ around Karachi, and appreciate his outfit choices- colourful dhotis, crisp white kurtas and quirky turbans like we have, you’ll love his heritage inspired new collection: Kanaasa.
Kanaasa is a Brahvi word that means, “my breath” according to Qureshi.
“This collection is a combination of all my previous collections,” he explains, “I have taken the best things from each of them, refined them and put them in this one.”
His latest undertaking consists of very simple but strong pieces rendered in cotton with stunning accessories to compliment the outfits. The colours that dominate this collection are reds, greens and whites, and signature pieces include printed, structured cholis, variations of the white kameez and ajrak block print ghararas, all rendered in soft cotton. The details are executed beautifully. The details stand out beautifully amidst these items, from rosettes on the ghararas to the beaded doris on the cholis. Accessories consist of armbands, earrings and chokers featuring shells and velvet linings.
