Government Temporary Bans Bollywood Movies

Planning on watching a movie this Eid? Just make sure you don’t have your eyes set on any Indian movie since the federal government has decided to put a prohibition on the display and screening of Bollywood films during the time around Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha. This law was announced in a press release last evening.

The statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on May 24 states, “in order to revive and promote the local film industry in Pakistan. The restriction shall remain in force for two days before and two weeks after Eid days.” Three weeks only Lollywood movies shall be ruling the big screen. Good thing there are Pakistani movies that we can look forward to. “All the importers/ distributors of the foreign films have been directed to restrain from the screening of Indian films in cinema houses all over the country during the above mentioned time period.”

The Bollywood movies which are said to be released during or on the Eid dates, Salman Khan’s Race 3 and Sunjay Dutt’s Sanju will have to wait to make their way to Pakistan’s big screen. Probably by the end of June, the Indian movies shall be screened in Pakistan, again.
