Two friends, one bright idea, and Diva was born. The online fashion venture, Diva, is the joint business endeavor of Hira Javed Saya and Anum Abbasi that provides people across the country with all the fashion brands that they could once only dream about getting their hands on. From high to low end, USA and UK, the business opens the gates of branded shopping to both men and women in Pakistan.
We got in touch with the team behind Diva to bring to you all the journey behind their growing business and to inspire all young friends to take a leap of faith and chase their dreams.
W.O: Whose idea was it to start the venture?
TEAM DIVA: Diva actually started off because of Michael Kors Scarves.
Hira had the idea in her mind, but she did not know how to kick it off. It was one-day Anum messaged her asking if she wanted scarves at a discounted price as she was getting some for her close friends and family. It was then the idea of starting Diva was discussed. Three days and one spontaneous decision later, Diva was launched.
W.O: How long have the two of you been working on this business?
TEAM DIVA: We’ve been working together for one year now.
W.O: How many followers did you guys initially have and how many do you have now?
TEAM DIVA: When we started off we mostly had friends and family following us. Our first month had 5 orders which we entertained. Orders that came from friends and family as initially, people were hesitant about how we would take DIVA ahead. After that, there was no looking back. Once sales across USA and UK started, people noticed our lower rates and we soon grew exponentially because of our unmatched rates during sales. Now we have over 55,000 people following us on Facebook, two WhatsApp groups which have over 500 clients and we handle around 350 to 400 orders a month.
W.O: What’s the process for purchasing an item at DIVA?
TEAM DIVA: We upload stuff with prices on our facebook page, facebook group and our Instagram account. You can rather choose from there or inbox us the link of the desired item and get a price quotation. Orders are confirmed at half advance payment and delivered within 3 to 4 weeks.
W.O: How many times do you guys take orders in a year?
TEAM DIVA: We are open for orders throughout the year.
W.O: How do you make sure DIVA is better than all others in the business?
TEAM DIVA: DIVA is not just a source to get branded items. We are very involved with our customers and act as personal shoppers, giving our clients suggestions according to their style. Moreover, we charge minimal profits hence passing a price advantage to clients.
W.O: Handling a business can be stressful. How has your journey been like working as friends?
TEAM DIVA: The journey has been very stressful indeed. When it comes to DIVA, we are more as partners than friends hence a lot of constructive criticism, arguments and discussions are a part of our life. We knew that in order for DIVA to work out, our communication had to be excellent and it is this open communication has helped us evolve professionally and personally.
Not to sugar coat anything, but a startup has its own challenges which will push you down, which will make you cringe but its hard work, dedication and lots of sleepless nights that will help you get past it. If you have a partner who is as dedicated as you are – the journey just gets a lot easier.
W.O: Who’s the expert at client handling? and how do you guys ensure customer satisfaction?
TEAM DIVA: We are a customer-centric business hence we both are experts in client handling. We ensure Customer satisfaction by providing good deals, brands at a value price. We are open to both high end and low-end brands in both the USA and the UK thus providing customers with a variety of options to choose from. Round the clock, we are available to answer queries thus customers feel they can talk to us and discuss their shopping needs. For many, we are even personal shoppers updating them about latest trends in the fashion industry and helping them personalize their style. Furthermore, when the products come, they are in their original packing with tags so that customers feel that premium shopping experience.
More than the product, our business provides a service, a service to shop hence for us customers and their experience matter.
W.O: Is your clientele based only in Pakistan? If so, have you considered expanding to other countries?
TEAM DIVA: We have considered expanding to the UAE, but for now, our clientele is only based in Pakistan.
W.O: Where do you see DIVA in the coming years and what are your plans for your venture?
TEAM DIVA: In the past year we have been very focused on women fashion; but now, we have started going towards men and children fashion categories. In the future, we plan to take this ahead and now work more along these new categories. With our cash on delivery across Pakistan, we also aim to capture more cities and more client base.
Currently, we follow a no stock model and take preorders, in the future, we would like to develop into a complete e-commerce site with products in stock.
