The India Couture Week 2018 is upon us, and as always we were eager to see what the designers had to offer. This year’s showcase included some of the top couturiers of India from the world of fashion—Tarun Tahiliani, Amit Aggarwal, Anju Modi, Rohit Bal, Shane and Falguni Peacock, Rahul Mishra, Pallavi Jaikishan and Suneet Varma, among others. And while the clothes spelled grandeur, it’s the sets—which gave big-tickets production houses a run for their money—that caught our eye.

Here’s a round-up of some of the sets that stole our hearts at India Couture Week 2018:

Known for engineering couture into runway masterpieces by seamlessly combining India’s rich textile heritage, Amit Aggarwal’s collection, Crystalis, is inspired by the coming together of two wondrous natural phenomenon—the formation of crystals at a molecular level and the enveloping of the metallic chrysalis around a butterfly cocoon. The 3D-modeled design set is inspired by the heart of Aggarwal’s collection; the formation of crystals and chrysalis around the butterfly cocoon. Shilpa Shetty, who walked the ramp for Amit Aggarwal on Day 3 of the India Couture Week 2018, dazzled in a plum-hued metallic sari.

The angular format of the runway is softened by organic characteristics of the weaves. Each of these spaces contains multiple yarn pyramids stacked together, forming a crystal-like structure. A special effect is a play with light, as it passes through the pyramidal structures and forms multiple linear shadows. The colour palette comprises metallic shades in the brand’s details and silver yarns.

Falguni and Shane Peacock for India Couture Week 2018

The designer duo never fails to bring the razzle-dazzle to the runway. Their debut show at India Couture Week 2018 was no different. Falguni and Shane Peacock’s collection, titled Amour De Junagarh, was a fine balance between French aristocracy and the grandeur of the Junagarh palace—Rajasthan’s cultural jewel. And while Kareena Kapoor Khan—their showstopper, and the feather- and- Swarovski-encrusted gowns grabbed eyeballs, the opulent set was in keeping with the designer duo’s aesthetic—showgirl chic. Crescent moons suspended from the rafters gave off a decadent vibe. The glitter-studded ramp was the other highlight.

Suneet Varma for India Couture Week 2018

Fashion designer Suneet Varma did not hold back on the sparkle during his showcase at India Couture Week. The swaggering proportions and craftsmanship of the clothes were complemented by a futuristic set by interior designer Abhishek Kaushik. The larger-than-life mosaic installation of metallic fabric acted as the glimmering backdrop for the showcase. The massive, distorted star-like installations were also a talking point.

Tarun Tahiliani for India Couture Week 2018

Tarun Tahiliani’s set for couture week recreated the mythical paradise of Elysium. It was in keeping with the collection’s airy and light vibe. The majestic wire mesh structure, which played with transparency and industrial materials, created an out-of-world experience for everyone in attendance. Bollywood actor Aditi Rao Hydari in an embellished, off-shoulder lehenga featuring a semi-sheer, cape-styled dupatta with a long train capped off another winning show for the couturier.
