Medical student and makeup blogger! – Find out how Tahleel Gulalai Khan manages it all in this interview.
Tahleel Gulalai khan is a self-taught makeup artist, a beauty blogger, and a Medical student, all in one! A true example of beauty with brains.
She is from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has been an inspiration to almost every girl in town. She has a huge following of 130k on Instagram and everyone is not only a fan of her work but also who she is as a person.
You might be wondering how she does it, even when getting out of the bed is a real struggle for her, just like the rest of us. Let’s find out how she became what she is today and how even after facing severe depression and difficulties throughout, she never gave up!
Tahleel, we all really wanna know what exactly made you start blogging?
I started back in 2014 when I was on a gap year and studying for Mcat. I was extremely depressed and lonely, but thanks to my best friend, I started blogging and it was a beautiful escape for me. Initially, I used to paint my face, according to the book I would be reading. I used to review books and would paint my face according to the theme of the book. It was too hectic and I wasn’t able to carry it further. Then I put to use, what I knew best: my knowledge of makeup. I’m still learning though, and nowhere near perfect.
Since you’re a medical student as well, how do you manage everything so well?
I ALWAYS prioritize my education over anything and everything. And then I reward myself with blogging and connecting with my beautiful virtual internet family. I believe you gotta do, what you gotta do.
How do you influence people through your blog?
I remain true to my followers and MYSELF. I’m a complete clown at home and I take extreme joy in being jolly, quirky, hyper and completely random. And I make sure my followers see THAT version of me. No filter, no lies. And I think that might be one of the main reasons, people can approach me and be inspired by me.
We recently saw your post about depression. Can you tell us more about it?
In 2016, I was diagnosed with Clinical Depression and Anxiety, after battling with the symptoms for almost a decade. I kept quiet about it for the longest time because I was afraid of the stigma, judgments, and unsolicited advice. However, when I started opening up, I realized I’m not alone. I realized I can help people open up about their illness if I use my platform to create awareness, by explaining my symptoms. And I’m so happy with the fact that people are so empathetic because majority of the population is facing the same thing. I don’t feel so alone anymore. I don’t feel alienated anymore.
One last message for all your followers.
I struggle a lot with self-love but I have started to love myself because of so much support. I want my followers to do the same. I want you to take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself: ‘I AM ENOUGH’. You’re plenty. You’re amazing.
Lastly, be YOURSELF. Be KIND. Be EMPATHETIC. Be FIERCE. Be WILD. Be COURAGEOUS. I believe in you, just like you have believed in me and continue to do so.
