Itchy Scalp

Cold breeze is here and has brought with it dreadful itchy scalp and flakes on your dark shirt, shows that you may be suffering from Dandruff.

Dandruff in winters is caused by a dry scalp which can feel itchy. It could be due to dry, cold air or an overgrowth of fungi (Malassezia fungus)

 

What is dandruff and do you actually have it?

True dandruff is flaky yellow or white scales specifically termed as Seborrheic Dermatitis. There are other scalp conditions which causes itching and flakes too like Scalp Psoriasis, Dry scalp or reactions to certain hair care products.

How to get rid of dandruff?

  • Brush your hair sufficiently

It stimulates the scalp to increase blood circulation thus increasing the secretion of oilsthat keep hair and scalp healthy.

  • Increase water intake

Dehydration is a provoking factor, so target to drink at least 5 litres of water a day

  • Avoid direct heat

Heat is one of the common causes of flaky scalp. Hair dryers/ Straighteners they are the direct sources of heat to scalp.

  • Increase intake of Vitamin B, Zinc and Omega 3
  • Oil your hair

Coconut oil is the best food for your scalp

  • Reduce stress
  • Don’t colour your hair

Especially when you have an itchy scalp it can further aggravate the situation
